Crochet Cat Keychain

Cat keychain

This adorable crochet cat keychain is a fun and portable project that's perfect as a handmade gift, bag charm, or everyday accessory.

For this project, I used glow-in-the-dark yarn for a fun effect, but you can use any type of yarn and colors you prefer.

Pattern

You will need:

  • Yarn: cotton or cotton yarn blend works best
  • Hook: suitable for the yarn you're using
  • Eyes: I used 8mm safety eyes (you can also sew the eyes with yarn)
  • Needle: for sewing the face whiskers and nose
  • You can use a stitch marker to track each row

Abbreviations:

  • sc - single crochet
  • inc - increase (two single crochet in the same stitch)
  • dc - double crochet
  • (..) - represents the sequence that will repeat
  • x and number - the number of times to repeat a sequence
  • [..] - the number between square brackets is the number of stitches at the end of row

Notes:

The size of the finished keychain will end up with different measurements based on yarn and hook you're using.

The pattern is written in US terminology.

Cat:

Row 1: 6 sc in magic circle - [6]

Row 2: (inc)x6 - [12]

Row 3: (sc, inc)x6 - [18]

Row 4: (2sc, inc)x6 - [24]

Row 5: (3sc, inc)x6 - [30]

Rows 6-12: 30sc - 7 rows

Attach eyes: between rows 9 and 10, 4 stitches apart.

Row 13: (3sc, dec)x6 - [24]

Row 14: (2sc, dec)x6 - [18]

Add filling.

Row 15: dec*9 - [9]

Add more filling if needed and close.

Ears:

Ears go in between rows 5-6 and 6-7.

- count rows from the top to reach row 6

- starting from the stitch in between eyes, count 6 stitched to the right

- insert hook, chain 3, then make sc, dc, then attach with sl st on the row above

- cut yarn, first ear is done

- starting from the top point of the first ear, count 6 stitches to the left

- insert hook to attach yarn, chain 3, then make sc, dc, then attach with sl st one row down

- cut yarn, the second ear is done

Hide remaining tails.

Sew on the nose and whiskers and the keychain is ready. Enjoy! :)
